Pegasus the mythological winged horse Stater, ancient Greek coin pendant Antique High Relief coin
Flying horse Pegasus. In late antiquity Pegasuss soaring flight was interpreted as an allegory of the souls immortality; in modern times it has been regarded as a symbol of poetic inspiration.

The Stater, as Greek currency, first as ingots, and later as coin, circulated from 8th century BC, To AC 50.
The artwork on the coins is quite refined in contrast with other ancient coins of the time, the Athens Owl and the Aegina Turtle. Even the earliest examples of the Pegasus stater show well-defined feature on feathered lines on the wings of the Pegasus.
Pegasus appears on many coins from the ancient world, but it is the Corinthian silver stater that is most highly prized, both for its beauty and for its history. Because of his years of faithful service to Zeus, Pegasus was later honored with transformation into a constellation.
